Episode 62: Prof. Harlan Krumholz - Vibrations, LISTEN, and Paxlovid studies

Professor Harlan Krumholz is trying to move the needle, not only on Long Covid research, but on the way in which patients can have influence and authority over the way that studies are conducted, medicine is practised and their conditions are treated.

An eminent Cardiologist and Professor of Medicine at Yale University, Krumholz has been working with immunologist Akiko Iwasaki (another Long Covid research power-pairing) to create the LISTEN study, in which patients are asked to share their data to guide the way that care is administered. Recently he published a paper discussing internal tremors and vibrations in Long Covid, a symptom that is rarely researched or discussed, but something that afflicts many patients.

In this week’s episode Professor Krumholz discusses both studies, along with the Paxlovid trial for which he and Iwasaki are currently actively recruiting.  Once again, an interview in which we are only scratching the surface of the knowledge of such a committed, humble and humane doctor who is doing his utmost to improve care for Long Covid patients.  We didn’t even have time to deep dive into his cardiac knowledge but look forward to that in our next conversation.

Krumholz is also the co-founder of MedRxiv and co-founder of Hugo Health. It is his belief that we need to change the culture of medicine, allowing patients to inform doctors about their condition and the way in which it needs to be treated, whilst maintaining authority over their own data.
