Episode 61: Dr Leo Galland – A functional approach

What if we had a medical practitioner who approached Long Covid from a holistic stance, combining the medical, pharmaceutical, supplementary, nutritional and complimentary therapies?

Well, that is what Dr Leo Galland does.

As the pioneer of functional medicine, Dr. Galland has dedicated the past four decades to revolutionizing healthcare by focusing on patient-centered care. He goes beyond the confines of conventional medical practice and integrates nutritional, environmental, and behavioral science into his clinical approach.

At the Foundation for Integrated Medicine he specialises in working with patients with complex chronic disorders, so Long Covid falls right into his camp. He has used his years of experience to create a comprehensive protocol for Long Covid patients, available for all to access, which he has successfully used to treat his patients.

Dr Galland aims to get to the root of the patient’s illness so, refreshingly, he shies away from the band-aid medicine that is currently often our only treatment option, to try and improve functionality and heal rather than mask or stabilise.

In this interview, Dr. Galland touches upon some of his research and experiences in treating Long Covid, addressing topics such as ACE2 deficit and Mast Cells. However, his knowledge and approach go much deeper than that which is covered here. With a meticulous dedication to tracking every study and customising treatment strategies for each patient, he takes on Long Covid with a truly integrated and multi-faceted approach.

We can only scratch the surface of Dr. Galland's profound wisdom in this interview, but it leaves us hopeful that we may follow up with him for more valuable insights as he continues to tackle this illness with his holistic and patient-centred approach.
