Episode 34: Dr Satish Raj - POTS

Dr. Satish Raj MD MSCI is a Canadian Heart Rhythm Cardiologist specialising in Autonomic Dysfunction. He is currently leading a team looking at postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in Long Covid patients across Canada. Commonly described symptoms of Long-COVID include some combination of breathlessness, palpitation, chest discomfort, fatigue, pain, brain fog, sleep disturbance, orthostatic intolerance, peripheral neuropathy symptoms (pins and needles, and numbness), abdominal discomfort, nausea, diarrhoea, joint and muscle pains, symptoms of anxiety or depression, skin rashes, sore throat, headache, earache and tinnitus. These symptoms, when combined with excessive orthostatic tachycardia, can lead to a diagnosis of POTS post-COVID-19.

When you listen to the interview you quickly understand the breadth of knowledge that Raj has, not just about the heart of Long Haulers, but also all the other disorders that go hand in hand with a Post Covid Syndrome. One of the hidden advantages of this new illness is that doctors are more and more interested in looking beyond their specialty for answers.
